These Guys are Good!
Thanks everyone for being so patient putting up with my experiment this Tuesday with two-man teams. I left home thinking I’d have to put up with a bunch of confusion and griping, but you guys continue to amaze me. We’re a modern old-farts golf group that knows how to go with the flow and enjoy ourselves.
If you have thoughts on that format, please let our coordinators know (Mike, Doug, Tim and me).
Now for my thoughts (feel free to disagree). I enjoyed the day quite a lot for several reasons, none of which had to do with aggravating a bunch of old farts.
You guys put up with it. We did it!
The scores were pretty close. The way we paired teams appeared relatively balanced. I programmed our system to pair AD & BC.
playing as a single (odd number of players) I thought worked out. I tied for third with the special rules for a single….par as the maximum score on the scramble side, and a random draw of a C player as my “partner” on the BB side (thanks Dwayne, I drew you). I believe strongly that, even short hitters, can still compete on the BC teams as long as their handicaps reflect their true abilities. We don’t all have to be paired with long hitters.
I enjoyed being responsible for my own game as a single player. I don’t hit it nearly as far as I did as little as three years ago. I’ve let my handicap creep up and feel I’m still ok competing. Sometimes, as much as I enjoy watching the A player bomb it down the fairway, I get bored and distracted when I know there is no point hitting the ball. I’d rather play golf.
I hope you don’t mind my preaching. I hope we can repeat this occasionally.
